My mom decided it would be a good idea to take me canoeing (against my wishes) when I was a small child. We flipped the canoe and I nearly drowned. It was traumatic, and I never really forgave her for making me go. That was 35 years ago, and I still hate canoes and canoeing. I dislike all water sports. Do I still hold a grudge over it? A little, honestly. I could have very well drowned that day. All in the name of "fun" and "new experiences". My mom knows I've resented it all these years too. If she could go back and do it again, I guarantee she wouldn't make the same call again. But there's no way to GO back.
Kayaks FLIP OVER, man. Ar least I was able to get out from under that canoe...If I'd been "unable to move", I'd not be here typing right now. Wanna risk a lifetime of nightmares for you child and a lifetime of hard feeling against yourself from your own child, ...or even worse, risk losing your child, for the sake of "fun" , and "new experiences"?
Of course you don't.
Wait till he or she's older. Get them swimming lessons first.
Above all, make sure they WANT to go, and that they understand there's a good chance they'll wind up suddenly in the water - ready or not.
I wish I didn't hold that grudge, but I still do. Wishing I didn't doesn't mean I still don't. I'm miserable about it, She's miserable about it....
You don't wanna go there.

For children kayaking in all cases must be accompanied by and adult have heard of children kayaking in many states the minimum age is.
The minimum age is years old and in many states that regulate the ages of an emergency better safe than sorry protective helmet would be good thing.
