Kayaking the Hudson River- does anyone have any experience and/or suggestions?

My best friend and I want to kayak from Hudson to Kingston, staying overnight at the lighthouse in Saugerties. We plan to wear wetsuits and bring plenty of fluids, energy supplements, etc. We are both experienced. Does anyone have good advice for making this journey?
I live in Hudson, within 5 minute walking distance of the launch site. Thanks for some great advice!
