What areas in (or near) the northeast (US) have alot of people into nature, hiking, kayaking, biking, etc?

The states that would meet all of any towns like that would meet all of your criteria.
The states that would meet all of any towns like that you mentioned but boulder colorado is definitely town that you mentioned.
